  • Annie,

    I wondered into your blog when I googled "UMUC Taiwan" -- I was curious if anyone attended UMUC from Taiwan since I saw their ad in a magazine last year. A student at UMUC, just wanna say hi and wish you all the best... btw, you got a very lively blog... keep it up... and have some good time in Maryland... take care

    By Anonymous Anonymous, At 5/19/07, 9:18 PM

  • Hi, John:

    Welcome to UMUC.

    If you need any help at UMUC, please feel free to let me know.

    If I have the similar experience, we can share and discuss together.

    Good luck!

    >.^

    p.s. Do you have your blog?

    By Blogger Annie Chang, At 5/21/07, 9:31 AM

  • Annie,

    Thanks for your offer to help. Same here. If there is anything I can do for you, just let me know. Sorry I don't have a blog. Busy at work and not much an art type, even if I have one, I am sure it would be a cold and lonely place due to lack of traffic.

    Yesterday I fould that I could not register more than two courses in the summer session because of UMUC policy on class load... :-( Firs time in my life I wanna do more than what's required in school and look what happened! ;-)

    Keep up your blog... I like it... but honestely I am not sure why I like it :-))) Perhaps because of your witty comments... perhaps because you are my first UMUC classmate from Taiwan... btw, did I tell you I am also from Taiwan?

    In case I don't bump into you before you take off for summer vacation, I just wanna wish you a joyful summer time. Take care.

  • Hi, John:

    When I read your message - "googled UMUC Taiwan", I know that you are from Taiwan too.

    If you can't register courses, you should discuss your situation with your academic advisor. He/She perhaps can help you.

    At the beginning, you probably will suffer from APA style or UMUC Library searching. I can share my experience with you and we can discuss together.

    What courses do you plan to take during Summer term?

    Good Luck!

  • Annie,

    I already did APA style and UMUC library search and two graduate courses in Financial Mgmt. Already enrolled in Financial Mgmt and Info Systems, I want to change it to Accounting and Financial Mgmt. For that, I did ACCT 310 in Spring. Now I want to do 4 more ACCT undergrad courses to fulfill the prerequists.

    I am emailing back and forth with graduate advisors to ask for an exemption.... well, perhaps I will have to stop by the office.... ;-)

  • Hi, John:

    Did you receive this e-mail?
    Take Chance!

    ~~~~~~~
    Do you have questions about your degree requirements? Would you like help deciding which courses to take during the upcoming summer and fall semesters? Would you like to speak with an advisor?
    During the week of May 21-25 graduate advisors will be available 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday for walk in and phone appointments. During these hours, you will be able to speak with an advisor about a variety of issues including:
    ***Creating a schedule of courses for upcoming semesters
    ***Understanding your degree requirements
    ***Creating a tentative graduation timeline
    FYI.
  • Annie,
    Somehow, I missed this email... now you make me feel like a deserted child :-(....
    At any rate, I just got graduate advisor's approval to take all 4 undergrad courses. Now I face the problem that I cannot do both undergard certificate and MS degree at the same time..... I cannot comprehend theie rational... if anything, I thought schools is supposed to encourage and support me to fulfill my study plan....
    Well, I guess I would just have to file one appeal after another on till I get it done... it looks like I will have to meet the advisor face-to-face to solve this problem.
    Again, thanks for your help...
  • Hi, John:
    Because the School considers your workload, especially during the last week!
    At the beginning, probably you won't feel it; however, when you go through the last week for several seminar papers due at the same time, you will suffer from them.
    XD
    By Blogger Annie Chang, At 5/23/07, 2:19 PM
  • Annie,
    Glad that I can make you laugh..... I understahd they are concerned about the class loads (I did read their policy on this one) and all that. But, as a mid-career student, I have different perspective. I don't need straight (or any) A since I really don't expect anyone would care to see my transcript. All I need is to score B so as to get paid by my employer. What I really need is the overall understanding of accounting and financial management to make me more effective at work.
    Come to think of it, we probably talked too much about my courses.... as good as a therapy session it was for me, it is not fair to drag you into this dry topic... :-)
    Let's talk about you for a change. What's your plan for summer? Taking any classes?
    By Anonymous Anonymous, At 5/23/07, 2:55 PM
  • Hi, John:
    EMPLOYER?!
    這麼說你已在這裡工作囉?
    可以知道你來美國多久了?
    你怎麼會想來唸 UMUC 呢?
    通常大多數會去唸 UMCP
    往年暑假小婆回台省親
    今年小婆必須休養生息
    所以留在這裡偷懶打混
    聽說暑假的課程很鬆散
    因此小婆不想浪費$$
  • Yes, I am working... I came to the United States in 1983... Gosh, it has been almost 24 years... I am an old student... I thought you would have figured that out....
    Why UMUC? Simple. It is a practical choice. Working in Tyson's Corner area, I would get myself exhausted for fighting through all the traffic jam if I go anywahre else.... in contrast, UMUC allows me to do everything on-line, except final exams for undergrad classes. Besides, as much as I enjoy the atomspher of live classroom learning, I've found out that I do most learning by reading books myself. UMUC provides good enforcement to push me to study in a structured way.... so that I have no excuse to be lazy... ;-)
    I'm not sure if and how much the summer classes will be different from other semester's. I will let you know my own experience by the end of the session.
    Because I got to get something very important done by June 2, I won't be able to come back to chat with you for a while. Enjoy the holiday weekend and the summer vacation with your loved ones. Take care.
  • Hi, John:
    WOW! 24 years! I have only stayed here since January, 2004; however, my husband came here in 1991.
    You too ~
    Enjoy your long weekend and your summer term with those you love.
    Take good care of yourself.
